Pc vs Mac Essay Example for Free
Pc vs Mac Essay Which do you prefer? Many people are quick to choose a mac over a pc. But few take these variables into consideration. Pcââ¬â¢s run off a better, more reliant operating system, cheaper and better quality parts, and is compatible with a wide variety of software and games that the macââ¬â¢s operating system cannot read. Before you chose read the essay, you might have a change of heart. Why might a person chose a pc over a mac and what kind of person does that make him? The Windows 7 operating system blows the macââ¬â¢s operating system ââ¬Å"Mountain Lionâ⬠out of the water. For starters the macââ¬â¢s operating system is not as user friendly as its competitor Windows 7. Many people grew up with Windows and were taught how to work under that operating system. So the interface of Mountain Lion might seem counterintuitive. For example, the macââ¬â¢s tricolor windows management buttons (red, yellow, and green) donââ¬â¢t work how youââ¬â¢d expect them to. When hitting the red button to close an application the application doesnââ¬â¢t actually close. It closes the window but the application is still running in the background taking up valuable space on your RAM. RAM stands for Random Access Memory and is one of the most important parts of your computer. The RAMââ¬â¢s main purpose is multitasking, the ability to run several programs and applications at a given time. So a user that is not familiar with the macââ¬â¢s operating system would never know that their ability to multitask is hindered due to the unknowingly running application. Taking a look at another key component of the Windows 7 and Mountain Lionââ¬â¢s operating system is the dock and taskbar. The dock and taskbar is found at the bottom of the screen on both operating systems. Even the most ill-informed user knows what purpose the dock and task bar serves. The purpose is to launch applications easily and quickly. Both the dock and taskbar are customizable so the user can put whatever application or software that he/she uses most often. The Windows 7 taskbar and the macââ¬â¢s dock are almost identical in appearances except for the size and positioning of the thumb nail shortcuts. In my opinion the macââ¬â¢s dock is too cluttered and is hard to see what applications you currently have running on your computer. The Windows 7 taskbar is much more user friendly, clean and well organized; I have no problem seeing what I have running. The ability to multitask is very beneficial. Like I mentioned earlier RAM is a key component in what allows you to multitask. The more RAM you have and the better quality or speed of the RAM will determine how fast you can run application and how easily you can navigate them. RAM is very important in the ability to multitask but without the tools to do so RAM is pretty much useless. Think of it this way, the operating system is an outlet and the RAM is one of the many plugs. Each operating system comes with its own built in hot keys to activate shortcuts. A hot key is a combination of keys that provides quick access to a particular function. For example, Windows 7 Alt + Tab show you every application that is currently opened and gives you the option to switch between them. This allows for a very easy way to navigate between applications. Mac has a similar tool called mission control. Which with a hot key of your choosing letââ¬â¢s you view all of the applications that is currently opened. Windows 7 also has a feature that is extremely user friendly. Itââ¬â¢s a feature that anybody that has used a pc or laptop running Windows 7 is familiar with. Itââ¬â¢s called the snap feature. If the user wanted to view two applications or webpages at the same time he/she could just slap the application against the left or right side of the screen to resize it to fit exactly the left or right portion of your monitor. I personally use this feature all of the time when writing a paper that requires research. I have the application word taking up the right half of my monitor and whatever source Iââ¬â¢m using for my research taking up the left half. This eliminates constantly having to switch between the two. The macââ¬â¢s operating system does not have a feature like this. So in my opinion multitasking is much easier on Windows 7 rather than the macââ¬â¢s Mountain Lion. As humans the number one contributing factor in what we buy is price and quality, ââ¬Å"getting the most bang for your buckâ⬠. This is where pcââ¬â¢s shines. Macââ¬â¢s are notorious for being extremely overpriced. The cost to quality of the product ratio is skewed in favor of the cost. But donââ¬â¢t take my word for it; let me give you an example. I looked up the cost of an iMac desktop computer and the specs of the computer off of Apple. com. I also looked up a random desktop computer running Windows 7 off of Dell. com and compared the two. The cost of the iMac is $1,300 and the specs are as follows; a 2. 7GHz quad core Intel core i5 processor, 8GB of 1600MHz RAM, and a 1 TB hard drive. The cost of the desktop off of Dell is $499. 99 and the specs are as follows; a 3. 2GHz quad core Intel core i5 processor, 8GB of 1600MHz RAM, and a 1 TB hard drive. Before I talk about the comparison ill briefly explain what the specs mean. The Intel i5 core is the processor that is on each computer and the GHz is how the speed of the processor is measured. The 1600MHz is the speed of the RAM that is on each computer. TB stands for Terabyte which is 1,000 GB or Gigabytes. So first letââ¬â¢s look at the similarities, both the iMac and desktop each have 8 gigs of 1600MHz RAM, a 1 TB hard drive, and they both have 4 cores. Now letââ¬â¢s look at where they differ. They both have the same brand of processor (Intel) and both are i5ââ¬â¢s but the speeds are different. The iMacââ¬â¢s speed is 2. 7GHz compared to the desktops speed of 3. 2GHz, a difference of . 5 GHz. So after looking at the comparison as a whole both the iMac and Dell desktop are pretty similar except for the difference of the . 5GHz in favor of the desktop. So if both computers are pretty similar with the desktop being slightly better then why does the iMac cost $1,300 and the desktop cost $499. 99? Itââ¬â¢s simple, because of the brand name. Apple can charge outrageous prices for an inferior product just because it has an apple on it and people will buy it, yet another reason why pcââ¬â¢s are better than macââ¬â¢s. Also pcââ¬â¢s are cheaper because you can build your own! Unlike a mac you can build your own pc from scratch. You can buy every individual part including the tower and assemble it yourself. Iââ¬â¢m sure youââ¬â¢re asking yourself, ââ¬Å"Why would I want to build my computer when I could just buy it in one piece off the batâ⬠? When buying the computer not assembled itââ¬â¢s much cheaper than buying it in one piece. When buying a computer fully assembled youââ¬â¢re paying for that luxury in labor costs. I myself have built my pc. I spend in total around $2500 on my pc and I bought each part individually. If I were to buy my computer fully assembled with the same parts and specs it would of cost me around $4500. So by spending a couple hours assembling the parts I saved $2000. There is no option in buying a mac in individual parts as it is too complex to build yourself without the assistance of machinery, yet another example on how pcââ¬â¢s are more user friendly than macââ¬â¢s. Another reason to buy a pc over a mac is compatibility. For all those gamers out there a pc is for you! If you are a gamer than you probably know about steam if not let me explain. Steam is the biggest online retailer of pc games. Theyââ¬â¢re tens of thousands of games that are just a click away from being able to download and play. All of these games are only compatible for the Windows operating system. Iââ¬â¢m sure there is similar websites for mac users but I guarantee that it wonââ¬â¢t have even close to the selection that steam has. So if youââ¬â¢re a serious gamer there is no question, buy a pc. The result is the same if your look at the available apps you can download for each operating system. There are a decent number of apps available for Mountain Lion but there are thousands more on Windows. If youââ¬â¢re wondering why there is a much larger selection for Windows the answers simple, demand. The number of pc users far outweighs the number of mac users so this creates more demand to make games, software, and apps formatted for the Windows operating system. Sony Vegas is an example of a major piece of software that is only available Windows users and cannot be run on a mac. Now there are some downsides to having such a large amount of software, apps, games, and other downloadable content available to you. The downside is Windows users are much more susceptible to downloading a virus. Itââ¬â¢s a good thing that Windows has advanced malware and virus protection such as Norton, Bitdefender, Kaspersky, and my personal favorite Avast. Those are just a few examples there are many more that will suite your needs. These virus protection programs will protect your computer from most if not all viruses. Throughout this essay I have expressed my opinion on whether to buy a pc or mac. I believe that the Windows operating system and pc is and forever will be superior to Mountain Lion and mac. I hope this essay will help people that are on the fence about buying a mac or pc. I hope this essay pushes you onto the correct side, the pc side! But thatââ¬â¢s just my opinion, and many others. So which do you prefer?

Hamlets Soliloquy - To be, or not to be :: Hamlet essays
Hamlet's Soliloquy - To be, or not to be Hamlet's "To be, or not to be" soliloquy is arguably the most famous soliloquy in the history of the theatre. Even today, 400 years after it was written, most people are vaguely familiar with the soliloquy even though they may not know the play. What gives these 34 lines such universal appeal and recognition? What about Hamlet's introspection has prompted scholars and theatregoers alike to ask questions about their own existence over the centuries? In this soliloquy, Shakespeare strikes a chord with a fundamental human concern: the validity and worthiness of life. Would it not be easier for us to simply enter a never-ending sleep when we find ourselves facing the daunting problems of life than to "suffer / the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune"? However, it is perhaps because we do not know what this endless sleep entails that humans usually opt against suicide. "For in that sleep of death what dreams may come / When we have shuffled off this mortal coil / Must give us pause." Shakespeare seems to understand this dilemma through his character Hamlet, and thus the phrase "To be, or not to be" has been immortalized; indeed, it has pervaded our culture to such a remarkable extent that it has been referenced countless times in movies, television, and the media. Popular movies such as Billy Madison quote the famous phrase, and www.tobeornottobe.com serves as an online archive of Shakespeare's works. Today, a Shakespeare stereotype is held up by the bulk of society, where they see him as the god of drama, infallible and fundamentally superior to modern playwrights. However, this attitude is not new. Even centuries ago, the "holiness" of Shakespeare's work inspired and awed audiences. In a letter dated October 1, 1775, Georg Christoph Lichtenberg, commenting on David Garrick's production of Hamlet (1742-1776) to his friend Heinrich Christian Boie, likens the "To be, or not to be" soliloquy to the Lord's Prayer. He says that the soliloquy "does not naturally make the same impression on the auditor" as Hamlet's other soliloquies do, But it produces an infinitely greater effect than could be expected of an argument on suicide and death in tragedy; and this is because a large part of the audience not only knows it by

Business Law Assignment Essay
The main point for consideration in this situation is whether the initial agreement between Packard and Hewlett constitutes as a contract that has a legal relationship, and if so, is Hewlett within his rights to void the established contract and sell the laptop to the offeror with a higher price. The General Principle of Law here would imply here that Hewlett and Packard, are in a contract due to consensus ad idem, in that a meeting of minds must be between the two parties to be counted as a contract (Don Mayer, 2011). This contract is enforceable as the following factors are present: 1)Offer: Hewlett had made a bilateral offer to his classmates to sell his laptop at $800/-. This is an offer as the offeror had indicated his intention to sell his laptop to any member of his class at $800. 2)Acceptance: Packard had clearly communicated his unconditional acceptance of his offer, thereby closing the offer. 3)Consideration and Legal Relations: Consideration under the Law is defined as ââ¬Å"some right, interest, profit or benefit accruing to one party, or some forbearance detriment, loss or responsibility given, suffered or undertaken by the otherâ⬠Currie v Misa (1875) (InBrief: Free Legal Information, 2014). Hewlett promised to do the transaction of the laptop tomorrow after he transferred his data in the laptop and Packard agreed. This is executory consideration and shows that due consideration has been done on the part of the promisee. Legal relations are thus also created. They are thus in a legally binding contract and either party can sue should there be a breach. Hewlett is not able to revoke his offer once accepted even if someone were to offer him a higher price for the laptop. However, Hewlett sold his laptop to Compac for $1000, discharging his contract with Packard by Breach. Hewlett has by his own act disabled himself from performing the contract and Packard can thus bring action against him for the Breach of Contract. The Principle guiding this was established in Synge v Synge (1894). Recommendation and Conclusion In conclusion, Packard is able to bring action against Hewlett for selling the laptop to Compac even after an initial contract was established with Packard. He is able to sue under Discharge of Contract by Breach and the Court will likely move possession of the laptop back to Packard after Packard pays Hewlett the $800 as agreed. Hewlett will also have to refund Compac his $1000.

Why Can You Drink Vinegar but Not Dilute Sulfuric Acid
You can drink vinegar, but you cant drink diluted forms of other acids, such as battery acid. Here is the explanation for why it is safe to drink vinegar. Why Drinking Vinegar Isnt Dangerous Vinegar is a natural form of dilute (5%) acetic acid, CH3COOH, which is a weak acid. Battery acid is about 30% sulfuric acid, H2SO4. Sulfuric acid is a strong acid. Even if you diluted the battery acid so that it was 5% acid, like vinegar, you still would not want to drink it. Strong acids, such as battery acid, completely dissociate in water (or your body), so at the same dilution, a strong acid is more active than a weak acid. However, the strength of an acid is not the main reason why you would not want to drink battery acid. Sulfuric acid or battery acid is much more corrosive than vinegar. Battery acid reacts strongly with the water in human tissue. Battery acid also tends to contain toxic impurities, such as lead. Its safe to drink vinegar because the 5% acetic acid has a concentration of about 1M and a pH around 2.5. Your body contains buffering agents that prevent a weak acid from adversely affecting the acidity of your tissues. You can tolerate vinegar without any ill effects. This is not to say that drinking straight vinegar is good for you. The acid acts on the enamel of your teeth and drinking too much vinegar can make you sick. People drink other diluted weak acids, too. Soft drinks usually contain citric acid, carbonic acid, and phosphoric acid. Carbonic acid forms whenever carbon dioxide bubbles through water.

If an organization which has been successful in the United States does not invest significant time and energy in understanding the political, cultural, and business environment of a given market they intend to enter before making the investment required, they are placing their business at significant risk of failure. Another straight-forward way to counter the proposition is to simply mention the creation of, and the necessity for, bi-lateral or multi-lateral trade agreements (WTO and GATT, to name two) that establish the structure and terms for doing business in various foreign countries. While regulations for doing business exist domestically, these pale in comparison with the challenges associates with navigating these arrangements. #2 ââ¬â What would it be like to work with a business partner located in a command economy? (Assume that your firm is and has always operated in a market-based economy). Is there any competitive advantage to be had here as well? From the demand side, it would theoretically be much easier to work with a government entity managing a command economy, as they would exercise total control over demand, rather than having to be dependent upon forecasting demand (and changes in demand) as in the case with a market economy. struggle for independance The recent events at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado are symptomatic of a growing rate of violence and disrespect for human dignity. Violence among our young people has reached crisis proportion. Rape, another form of violence and aggression, is also on the rise. Most women do not imagine that they will become a rape statistic. A growing concern in America today is that more and more woman do. While many imagine rape as a crime committed by a stranger, the fact is most women are raped by someone they know. It has been proven that there are many reasons why young teenage girls are vulnerable to rape in this country. According to a report by the Bureau of Justice Statistics this situation is just getting overlooked and not surprisingly, worse. A national survey of rape victims from the years 1972 to 1992, released by the Burearu showed that the cases of rape victims had gone up in girls ages twelve to fifteen, (More Often 5) while the cases of rape victims among sixteen to nineteen year olds had gone down. Although these are results from a national survey, many counselors and others who work with adolescents believe that these figures are understated. We tend to think of children as abused victims when in fact many are victims of rape. It is an astonishing fact, but there are more victims of rape now than there ever were in the past. Impact of Advertisements on Peoples Decisions free essay sample
Modern advertising was created with the innovative techniques introduced with tobacco advertisement in the 1920s, most significantly with the campaigns of Edward Bernays, who is often considered the founder of modern advertising. Today Tobacco is consumed by an estimated 1. 1 billion people world wide and about 1/3rd of the adult population. The World Health Organization(WHO) reports it to be the leading preventable cause of death worldwide and estimates that it currently causes 5. 4 million deaths per year. This can be considered as an example of what happens when advertisements endorse a product with negative effects. While advertising can be seen as necessary for economic growth, it is not without social costs. Advertising is increasingly invading public spaces, such as schools, which some critics argue is a form of child exploitation. Apart from that advertisements frequently use psychological pressure (for example, appealing to feelings of inadequacy) on the intended consumer, which may be harmful. As a result of these kinds of advertisements, people who dont require a product with subconsciously develop a feeling of want/need. The feeling will make them spend money unnecessarily, which can lead to various kinds of complications in their personal lives. Many even feel that often, advertisements exploit the desires of a consumer, by making a particular product more appealing, by manipulating the consumers needs and wants. Advertisements frequently use celebrities to endorse their products. A large section of people tend to ignore their rational decision making skills and buy products without thinking much about it. Through this survey we are attempting to understand how peoples decisions can be influenced by advertisements. Some quick facts about advertisements : There are different types of advertisements, t. v. ads, radio ads, online ads, bill board ads, celebrity branding, text messages, e-mails, human bill boards, mobile bill boards etc,. In 2010, spending on advertising was estimated at $142. 5 billion in the United States and $467 billion worldwide. In June 1836, French newspaper La Presse was the first to include paid advertising in its pages. In India, the Code for Self-Regulation of Advertising in India, established by the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI), is applicable on Television Commercials (TVCs). If consumers see an advertisement, which they consider misleading or offensive, they can write to ASCI. Some countries(Sweden, Greece etc,. ) have banned advertisements targeted to children. This may have happened because they might have assumed that children are not matured enough to think whether ads depict truth or not. Womenââ¬â¢s bodies are often ââ¬Å"dismemberedâ⬠in ads and shown only as ââ¬Å"body parts. This type of representation has been criticized for objectifying women and contributing to the underlying culture of violence toward women. In fashion advertising, women are often pictured lying on bearskin rugs, wearing furs and feathers, or dressed in tight-fitting leather clothing. Some researchers criticize these kinds of ads because they feature women as ââ¬Å"preyâ⬠. The America n Psychological Association (APA) reports that children under eight years old are not able to critically understand advertisements and that they regard them as truthful, accurate, and unbiased. The average child in America watches over 40,000 television commercials in a year, or over 100 a day. Advertisers consciously try to create a ââ¬Ënag factorâ⬠by bombarding kids with ads encouraging them to buy certain products in order to become popular. American children ages 12-17 will ask a parent for products they have seen on television an average of nine times until parents finally give in. Advertisers appeal to several common psychological themes to motivate people to buy their products. Some of the most common psychological appeals are to self-preservation, sex, self-esteem, fear, authority, and imitation. Advertisers often use a technique called ââ¬Å"affective condition,â⬠which means they take a product and place it next to other things consumers feel positively about. For example, a detergent ad will juxtapose their brand with babies, sunshine, flowers, or other similar items. Repeatedly showing their brand with these items makes consumers feel good about the detergent too. Studies show that repeated exposure to a stimulus that is barely perceptible creates an ââ¬Å"exposure effect,â⬠which increases positive feelings toward the object. For example, even though most people do not click banner ads, the ads still positively influence the way people feel about the product. In fact, the ââ¬Å"wear outâ⬠effect of banner ads did not appear even after 20 exposures. Channel One delivers two minutes of advertising and 10 minutes of news to approximately 7. 7 million students. Over 27% of Channel One advertisements are for junk and 10% are for military recruitment. Channel One also advertises movies, TV shows, and video games with alcohol and tobacco use, violence, and sex. Statement Of the Problem: Advertisements have become a part of the daily life of all sections of the society. Everyday an average American human being is exposed to 3000 advertisements(Source Union of Concerned Scientists Website). A lot of these advertisements will subconsciously affect the way we make decisions in every walk of our life. We have to study these influences and find ways to control the negative influences. Concepts in the Study: We are primarily looking at Tele Vision(T. V. ) commercials. Television is a very widely used source of advertising and it is also one of the costliest ones. A 30 second slot for advertising during Super Bowl series can cost up to 3 million USD( the cost of making these commericials are additional). Review Of Literature: 1. The Effects of Negative Political Advertisements: A Meta-Analytic Assessment. Richard R. Lau(Rutgers University), Lee Sigelman(George Washington University), Caroline Heldman(Rutgers University), Paul Babbit(Rutgers University). (Journal Of Advertising) The conventional wisdom about negative political advertisements holds that no one likes them, but they work, that is, they have the consequences their sponsors intended. Moreover many analysts expressed concern over the detrimental effects of such negativity on the American political system. The data in this assessment doesnt support either contentions. Negative political ads appear to be more effective than positive ads and do not seem to have especially detrimental effects on the political system. Discussion focuses on why negative political become so popular in practice when there is so little evidence that they work especially well. 2. The Effects of Negative Comparative Political Advertising on Candidate Evaluations and Advertising Evaluations : An Exploration. Bruce Pinkleton. (Journal Of Advertising). Currently, political candidates employ a mix of strategies that include comparative advertising as a means of communicating negative information on an opponent to prospective voters while avoiding the sigma attached to a purely negative attack advertising. An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of negative comparative on candidate and advertising evaluations. The results indicated that negative comparative advertising lowers targeted-candidate evaluations, without lowering sponsoring candidate evaluations, despite the low credibility ratings received by such advertising. The results are discussed in relation to another research findings in terms of both campaign strategy and public policy implications. 3. The Effects of television advertising on materialism, parent-child conflict, and unhappiness: A review. Moniek Buijzen, Patti M Valkenburg (http://www. schoncafe. com. au[-gt;0]) (Journal Of Applied Developmental Psychology). In this article, we introduce a model on the unintended effects of advertising. This model describes the existing hypotheses about the impact of advertising on materialism, parent-child conflict, and unhappiness. The validity of each of these hypotheses was investigated using a vote-counting analysis. Our analyses yielded a small to moderate effect size for the relation between advertising and materialism as well as a small to moderate effect size for the relation between advertising and parent-child conflict. However, support for the hypothesized relation between advertising and unhappiness was not found. The outcome of our vote-counting analysis provided several working hypotheses for further research as well as identified possible moderator variables that should be taken into account in future research. Abstract 4. Negative Impacts of Advertising. Bhttp://smallbusiness. chron. com[-gt;1]) The article by Katie Rosehill talks about the Misrepresentation, Unrealistic expectations, False Images, which are a very integral part of advertising these days. The author puts specific focus on how advertisements will impact on a children. 5. 6. www. studymode. com[-gt;2]) 7. www. studymode. com[-gt;3] ) Importance of the study: We have observed how advertisement have become part of our daily life. So, it is extremely important for us to study its ill effects in order to limit them and safe guard the society. It is necessary to study the negative aspects of advertisements to give a positive direction to our society. Objectives of the Study: 1. To understand the kind of advertisements the society likes/prefers to watch. 2. To understand how much advertisements influence people. 3. To understand the attitude of people who dont like an advertisement(to see whether people are taking action against advertisements which they think are false or wrong). 4. To understand how many people know how to make a complaint about a wrong advertisement. Hypothesis: A majority of the people will be influenced by advertisements. A lot of people might not agree that they are influenced by advertisements since it happens subconsciously. Majority of people wont try to take any action against advertisements which they think are wrong. Majority of people wont know how to take action against wrong advertisements. Area of Study: The study is going to take place in Hyderabad. Sampling Method: The method of sampling we have used in this project is called accidental sampling. Accidental Sampling: Accidental Sampling is a type of non probability sampling which involves the sample being drawn from that part of the population which is close to hand. That is, a sample population selected because it is readily available and convenient. The researcher using such a sample cannot scientifically make generalizations about the total population from this sample because it would not be representative enough. For example, if the interviewer was to conduct such a survey at a shopping center early in the morning on a given day, the people that he/she could interview would be limited to those given there at that given time, which would not represent the views of other members of society in such an area, if the survey was to be conducted at different times of day and several times per week. Sampling Size: Sample size is 39 Method of Data Collection: The method of collecting samples we are using is called Interview Schedule Method. Interview Method: This method is an important technique of data collection which revolves around the interview of the respondent by the researcher. In this process, we talk to the respondent in a purposive and systematic manner and through this we enter the life of a complete stranger in a imaginative way. This method helps in not only measuring the socio economic variables but also helps in discovering new facts, insights, feelings of the people and understanding the sociological nature of various facts. Some of the steps involved in Interview Schedule Method are: 1. Construction of questionnaire. 2. Establishing field relations. 3. Legitimizing the respondent. 4. Asking question (Pitch, body language, way of asking have to be taken care of during this) 5. Recording and Editing. There are different types of interviews, the one we have used is a Structured Interview. Structured Interview : In this method, there are structured set of questions, which are planned in advance, this method helps in collecting data if the sample size is large. Field Work: The sample collection was done mostly from people who visited my home which included my friends, my family friends, etc, I also collected some samples from my friends through internet. People were very reluctant to answer it since many of them found it boring. One of the reasons why many of them found it boring is that the questionnaire was completely open ended, people always prefer to answer questions with choices.
